PUPPETS

The possibility to transform matter into a living and breathing entity. The possibility to dream materials and to feel the dream of materials. To express  an emotion through objects. These all fascinate me while I dive into a world of magic – puppetry. I love to create puppets and to find out daily a variety of materials and new means of puppet handling. To initiate encounters with adults and with children through the puppets. While I communicate with people through the puppet they tend to react different than they usually do during normal human interaction. The puppets enable me to bring out qualities that I didn’t know exist within me. I am so curious to discover characters and images that hide inside me.

Grace

Grace

A wooden marionette that was inspired by the singer Grace Jones. I wanted to create a marionette that would move the pelvis and I discovered the way that the puppet would move on its own. The manipulator makes very small movements and the puppet from there makes a full movement on its own.
The technique used to make the puppet was sculpting with Balza wood.
The Marionette puppet was made in the framework of a course on wood sculpting at Bayit 9 in Haifa lead by Yael Erlich.

Leon

The first wooden Marionette puppet that I created, an exciting and magical experience! He was inspired by Leonard Cohen and played a sort of unsuccessful reincarnation of Leonard. After every show, Leon would sweep around him as a sort of symbol of his sweet misery.

Pilove

Pilove was created in the framework of the International Puppet Theater Festival at the Train Theater in Jerusalem. Pilove is a large sponge puppet with the head of an elephant and the body of a woman. The puppet is a loving and hugging mama. The puppet “Pilove” was inspired by the goddess Ganesh and the hugging mother Emma. When I am manipulating “Pilove”, I discover within me sources of compassion and love at an intensity that was unknown to me. Through her, I find in myself patience for every child and adult and their own pace.

Rosmarine

Rosmarine

The puppet Rosmarine is a sort of magician. She mixes potions and has knowledge of ancient medicinal herbs and spices. When coming to her stand, anyone can get advice from her on anything and to create a spice mandala that becomes small sack, she then blesses the man in front of her. She advises the person to put the small sack under his pillow for blessing, wealth and healing.
The technique that was used to make the puppet is sponge, cloth, glass and acrylic. The work was made in the framework of a course on street-stand shows lead by Elina Ashbal in Bayit 9 in Haifa.

Zvi & Luna

Zvi & Luna

A short script of Puppet Theater that I created, inspired by a short story by Amos Oz called “The Norwegian King” which is part of a series of short stories called “Between Friends”. The heads of the puppets are made with latex castings and the bodies are made with a mixed technique of latex, sponge, cloth and leather. The work was fascinating, how to bring to life the characters of the story, how to characterize them and the personality traits that I wanted to bring out and of course, also the techno-plastic research of building the puppets and the manipulation of their joints.
Building the scenery was also a fascinating process. To understand and be precise with what was needed and what was unnecessary. At the end of this process, I chose 3 central places from within the story and I built them using different techniques such as wood, plastic, cloth and acrylic.

The Secret

The Secret of the Cards

A play in process: a story based on the idea from the book “The secret of the cards” by Houston Gorder.
Frude comes to a deserted island with a pack of cards and due to his intense lonliness, he creates a whole world with the cards. The cards become characters that are his friends. The main characters are three-dimensional according to their deep and sophisticated characteristics and the rest of the characters stay as two-dimensional card figures.
Technique:
The old and young Frude: paper machete, cloth and acrylic
The cards: Polygal, acrylic and lacquer
